PHYSICAL SCIENCE CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES : SCIENCE CLUB

Co-curricular activities plays integral part of curriculum which provides educational activities to the students and thereby help in broadening their experiences.
It enhance and enrich the regular curriculum during the normal school hours. All co-curricular activities are organized with specific purpose which varies according to the nature of topic.
To learn science is to do science, there is no other way of learning science. Science is more a verb than a noun. Learning by doing is pragmatic philosophy behind science. Process skills are the major outcome of science learning. Show the learners should be trained in process competencies through various co-curricular activities develop scientific Insight.

SCIENCE CLUB

Science club forms the backbone of school sponsored co-curricular activities in science. Learning by doing and learning by living are the two essentials of learning science. Children are interested in making things, breaking things and handling things. 
In normal  classrooms hours, science learning occurs  in a  controlled environment, it do not provide ample space for realizing the the scientific concept, so the opportunity for self expression, discovery and creativity in the minds of the learners is almost or partially controlled.
A formal organization which caters for the inculcation of scientific attitude in school level is the science club. Science club is an organisation for conducting science program  led by science teacher along with the voluntary involvement of students.

Objectives of Science Club
  • To inculcate scientific attitude & outlook and to provide opportunities for training in scientific method
  • To develop habits of exploration and to develop creative and innovative thoughts.
  • To develop ability to handle instruments and to improvise.
  • To develop interest in the scientific hobbies
  • To widen the outlook of students and to enable them to apply their knowledge of science in  life situations
  • To develop leadership quality.
  • To develop children a sense of healthy competition for a better cause.
  • To keep students in touch with the recent advancements of science and their effect on human life.
  • To make students in particular and the public in general science minded
  • To encourage pupils to take co-operative enterprise and initiative in learning science, and to develop habits of neat and healthful living
  • To develop confidence, tolerance and critical mindedness among learners.
  • To utilize leisure time productively.

Organization
Every science club should have constitution and every member should strictly abide by it. The head of the institution should be the patron of the club and the
teacher in charge is the head/sponsor of club. The patron extends all types of facilities and co- operation for the successful execution of the club. The teacher in-charge/head  guides  the members in conducting programmes fruitfully. He should be intellectually mature and educationally well informed.
There should be an executive body elected from among the students consisting of a president, vice president,secretary, joint secretary,treasurer & executive representatives. There should be regular meetings, discussions, planning, feedback etc.


Activities of the Science Club

  • Organizing lectures, debates, seminars, symposia etc
  • Holding science exhibitions and fairs
  • Celebrating birthdays of eminent scientist
  • Participating in science fairs
  • Conducting programmes of scientific interest
  • Conducting Science Quiz & film shows.
  • Organize programmes like bird watch, star watch etc.
  • Arranging visits to places of scientific interest
  • Developing school garden
  • Improvising and preparing handmade apparatus
  • Collection of specimens and arranging them in the museum
  • General reading of scientific literature
  • Rendering school services in health and sanitation
  • Preparing albums and conducting projects
  • Publishing school science magazine & maintaining a science bulletin board
  • Organizing programmes like nature walk, eco club etc...
  • Organize programmes for community welfare & edification
