Improvised Aids

The challenge faced by science teachers is the lack of adequate apparatus to provide direct experience before learners. In scientific method of learning we need large amount of money in setting up of laboratories, the only solution to this economic problem is the improvisation of apparatus.

Improvisation means the preparation of ordinary laboratory apparatus/learning aid from simple or locally available materials.

Advantages
  • It is economical,the process involved in the production of the materials is simple and
    inexpensive and it substitutes complex and expensive apparatus.
  • The raw materials are easily available either free or at low cost in the locality
  • It develops useful habits correlation of work and dignity of labour
  • Its develops skills and clear understanding of basic principle.
  • The materials can be easily and effectively used by the teachers and pupils in
    clarifying the set of objectives
  • Application of science to day to day life is made clear.
  • Head, heart and hand co-ordination of  experience results in totality of learning.
  • Provides freshness and variety
  • Encourage active participation.
  • Utilization of leisure time.
  • Joy of creation and self motivated.
  • The material is simple, accurate and appropriate to the age level of the users
  • The material stimulates thinking, reacting, discussing, experimenting or further
    study, It develops scientific , independent and creative thoughts.
  • Self sufficiency of learning aids in schools.
  • Promotes scientific temper.
