Introduction
Life skills are psycho-social and interpersonal skills that are important for day to day existence. Life Skills has been classified in two categories firstly on the basis of its nature and secondly on the basis of its application in various life situations. The International Bureau of Education derived its understanding from the four pillars of learning (learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live together) and defined life skills as personal management and social skills which are necessary for adequate functioning on an independent basis. Effective acquisition and application of life skills can influence the way we felt about ourselves and others, i.e., the self-concept, and equally will influence the way we are perceived by others. Life skills are problem solving behaviours used appropriately and responsibly in the management of personal affairs.
On the basis of nature life skills are classified as
- Generic skills : The skills are the skills that are required for the overall development of the personality
On the basis of application we can classify the skills into
- Problem specific skills : The specific capabilities that are particularly necessary while dealing a problem situation.
- Area specific skills. : The skills needed to handle the different operations related

1. Healthy Life Style
Skills for Healthy Living will help students take steps to live a healthier life,physically, wide array of resources aimed at elementary, middle, and high school students. A healthy lifestyle is one which helps to keep and improve people's health and well- being. The ways to being healthy include healthy eating, physical activities, weight management, and
stress management. Good health allows people to do many things. Healthy life style includes proper diet, physical exercise, proper sleeping pattern, personal hygiene, absence of addiction, health education. safe environment , physical fitness etc.
2. Coping with Suicidal Decision
Suicide is a desperate attempt to escape suffering that has become unbearable. Blinded by feelings of self-loathing, hopelessness, and isolation, a suicidal person can’t see any way of finding relief except through death. But despite their desire for the pain to stop, most suicidal people are deeply conflicted about ending their own lives. They wish there was an alternative to suicide, but they just can’t see one. Most people with thoughts of suicide want to talk about it. They want to live, but desperately need someone to hear their pain and offer them help to keep safe.Suicide attempters’ failure to resist framing may reflect their inability to consider a decision from an objective standpoint in a crisis. Low-lethality attempters’ failure to resist sunk-cost may reflect their tendency to confuse past and future costs of their behavior, lowering their threshold for acting on suicidal thoughts.
3. Career
Career success can be defined as the positive material and psychological outcomes resulting from one’s work-related activities and experiences. This definition reflects both objective and subjective aspects of career success. Career success is important because it reflects an overall evaluation of the individual’s career: the ultimate outcome of career development. Career success can come when people achieve inner satisfaction through the continuing realization of the people’s deepest and most cherished life values in every major endeavor (i.e., home, work, school, and leisure), people’s opportunity and inspiration to use and develop current and desired skills, people’s excitement about past, current, and future achievements, etc. Objective career success reflects career accomplishments that are objectively observable by others and can be measured in terms of the individual’s level of income as well as the individual’s promotion history, hierarchical level in the organization, or job title.
