MICRO TEACHING
OBJECTIVES
·
To
familiarize prospective teachers about the importance of micro teaching in
instruction
·
To
analyze the different components of micro teaching skills and its applications
·
To
gain self-confidence among prospective teachers by scaling down all
complexities of actual classroom situation
·
To
practice micro teaching to develop core teaching skills for effective classroom
teaching
·
To
make use of the academic potential of the teacher trainee by providing much
needed feedback.
·
To
acquire the ability to integrate the micro teaching skills in normal classroom
teaching
SUMMARY
This module
deals with the core teaching skills involved in the classroom instruction.
Micro teaching as a simulation training
technique is trusted and proved
effective in moulding prospective
teachers for their future teaching career.
Micro
teaching-its rationale of use , origin, definition, cyclic process , phases,
steps, core teaching skills with their components are discussed simple.

Definition
A scaled down teaching encounter in class size
and class time”
~ Dwight W Allen ~
Micro teaching is a
training technique which requires a student teacher to teach a single concept
using specified teaching skill to a small number of pupils in a short duration
of time’
~B.K.Passi~
Characteristics
It scaled down the complexities of real
teaching with provision of
· Teaching a small topic
· Practicing one skill at a time
· Reducing the class size to 5-10 pupils
· Reducing the duration of lesson to 5-10
minutes.
STEPS in MICROTEACHING
1. Gaining theoretical knowledge about core
teaching skills and micro teaching
2. Selection of the specific teaching skill to
be practiced
3. Demonstration of the teaching skill by an
expert.
4. Teacher trainee prepares a micro lesson
plan for acquiring the specific skill
5. Teaching of the lesson plan by the teacher
trainee in a simulated set up in the presence of the observers.
6. Providing immediate feedback to the teacher
trainee by the peer observers and supervising teacher with a view to improve
the skill
7. Arrange re-plan, re-teach, re-feedback
sessions.
8. Repetition of re-plan, re-teach and
re-feedback cycle till the skill is acquired.
MICRO TEACHING CYCLE
PHASES OF MICRO TEACHING
1. Knowledge Acquisition Phase
2. Skill Acquisition Phase
3. Transfer Phase
1. Knowledge Acquisition Phase
Also known as pre-active phase
In this phase the
teacher trainee observes the demonstration of a specific skill by an expert.
The teacher trainee analyses and discuss the demonstration
2. Skill Acquisition Phase
Also known as interactive phase
The teacher trainee prepares micro lesson plan
for a specific skill. The trainee practices the skill before the peers.
Feedback were provided by peer observers and supervising teacher. The cycle
continues till the skill is mastered.
3. Transfer Phase
Also known as post active phase
This phase involves the transfer of acquired
skill into actual classroom situation.
