Methods of teaching science

 The method of teaching refers to the orderly procedure employed by the teacher in guiding the pupils in order to to accomplish the objectives of learning situation.


Different teaching methods were employed by the teachers to accomplish the desired objectives.

The main reason for need of a variety of teaching method are
  • Acquisition of different goals warrant different methods
Comprehensive and fruitful learning should include cognitive affective and skill oriented changes.
No single method of teaching is sufficient to cater all this needs. So suitable methods of teaching are adopted to bring desired behavioural change in learner.

  • To make the classroom teaching more effective and interesting.
Use of a single method for all classes will result in monotony and  lack of interest.
Hence a variety of methods could be interpersed to suit the learning situation.

Characteristics of  good teaching methods
  • It should provide a variety of related experiences and activities and should be designed to bring about anticipated developmental changes in pupils.
  • It should give scope for the creative expression of child's individuality.
  • It should train the students in the technique of self study and the method of processing information through personal effort.
  • It should be capable to promote interest among the learners.
  • It should stimulate the desire for further study and exploration
Determining factors of the selection of a teaching method
  • The objectives of instruction.
  • The nature of the child.
  • The nature of the subject matter.
  • Classroom environment.
  • Training of the teacher. ( Insight into the psychological principles of learning and mastery of the methods and techniques of teaching)
