Refraction, medium, incident ray, normal, refracted ray
Refraction :
Refraction of light is the change in direction of light when it passes from one transparent medium to another obliquely Experiment video demo :
An
experiment is done with a coin placed in a bowl and gradually water is
poured.
Observation :
From the series of activities & video demonstrations the pupil observes that light ray is incident obliquely from one
transparent medium to another, its path undergoes deviation.
Communication :
The
concept is attained through cohesive group discussions and worksheets.
Inference :
Arrives at the inference that refraction of light occurs when there is a change in the
densities of media and in the path of incident light.
Computer
system with LCD projector, Laser pointer
Videos :
Youtube links- Fishing with bow,
pencil water experiment,
coin & water experiment
PhET simulation of
refraction.
Jpeg images of refraction.
Beaker with water, pencil
Handouts of worksheets
Labelled worksheets & drawings of the path of deviation of light through different mediums. Scientific attitude, Inquiry thinking , Co-operation
Different
medium exhibit different densities
