A primary electronic database for education research.
The Education Resource Information Center (ERIC) provides access to educational literature and resources. This database provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index.
This resource contains more than 1.5 million records and links to hundreds of thousands of full-text documents dating back to 1966.
Includes indexing for journal articles and documents (unpublished reports, dissertations,government studies, conference proceedings, etc.)
Use the Thesaurus- The best way to get the most relevant citations in ERIC
• The Thesaurus is the controlled vocabulary or descriptors or subject headings.
• Descriptors are assigned to each article when there is enough content to warrant that
descriptor.
Eg; An article about academic achievement and parental involvement with middle school students
will have at least the following descriptors: academic achievement; middle school students;
parent participation.
ED = ERIC Documents
• ED = ERIC Documents (usually are texts that have not been printed in a journal,
e.g. dissertations, conference proceedings, technical reports, etc.)
EJ = ERIC Journals
• EJ = ERIC Journals (education related articles from a wide variety of journal titles).
ERIC’s mission
- To provide a comprehensive, easy to use, searchable, internet-based bibliographic and full-text database of educational research and information so as to meet the requirements of the Education Science Reform Act of 2002.
- To increase the availability and quality of research and information for educators, researchers and the public.
- To improve the efficiency and utility of ERIC continuously so as to make a premier Web-based library for accessing current and historical education resources.
- ERIC as a global digital platform for the learners to acquaint with best scientifically authentic research works
- To realize its mission and goal and to meet rising user expectations in the digital age, ERIC is undergoing significant change.
- ERIC is adopting metadata standards to help users refine their database searches and adding metadata tags to new database materials to provide information about resource quality.
ERIC full-text materials, previously sold by the ERIC Document Reproduction Service (EDRS) are now available free of charge.
Redesigned online services are being released to the public and made user friendly.
